Tree Roots to Become Communion Ware

As part of the significant effort to re-use much of the wood from the trees which have been cut down on campus one of the special projects emerging is the shaping of the wood from the root stump of a Holly tree which had to be removed between Founders Hall (aka “Isolation” dorm) and the East Courtyard. Holly wood is a very pure, beautiful white color. After a brief discussion with Dr. Kent Burreson, Dean of the Chapel, the leftover wood is going to be shaped into Communion ware for use in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus. Check out the photo set of the raw materials below. This post will be updated as more pictures of the craftsman’s progress and final product are available.
